What Makes Urban Alarm Different?
Urban Alarm is the only security company in the Washington DC Metro Region that:
- Is owned and operated in Northwest Washington DC, serving residential and commercial clients in its own community and region
- Will take you to the airport to avoid announcing your property will be empty (by calling a cab) while you are traveling
- Will water your plants and feed your pet while you're away
- Will pick up your dry cleaning
- Will go a few steps further: we'll not only alert you to water in your basement, but will help identify contractors to repair any damage and will coordinate that repair
- Will install a fire extinguisher in your home for free, even if you don’t select us to do your alarm system
Company History & Time Line
Urban Alarm was founded by Miles Fawcett, an entrepreneur born and raised in the Dupont Circle area of Washington DC.
1994 - Miles founded Interactive Applications Group (iapps), a creative technology company providing website design and development services for over 100 of the region and nations leading nonprofit organizations including The National Children’s Museum, Annenburg Foundation, Packard Foundation, Ford Foundation, Meyer Foundation, and Howard Hughs Medical Institute.
1998 - Miles moves iapps into 10,000 Sq. ft. of new office space in the Woodley Park neighborhood of DC. Needing security for the new office he signs up with a national security company under a five year contract. He then struggles to get adequate service and vows never to work with them again.
2003 - With the office's existing five-year security and access control contract coming to an end, Miles searches for a company that balances community investment, technical skills and capabilities, and excellence in customer service to replace the previous company. When no company is identified that meets his criteria, he starts Urban Alarm as a division of SaiComm LLC (named after his first daughter, Saira).
2004 - After implementing solutions for Miles's business and home, Urban Alarm adds its first unrelated residential and commercial customers. In December 2004 Miles merges his company, iapps, into Boston-based Bridgeline Software and begins his transition to focus on Urban Alarm full time.
2006 - Urban Alarm adds its 100th ongoing customer to it security monitoring services.
2007 - Urban Alarm expands into Maryland.
Alexander Keely is hired, as Associate General Manager, to run day-to-day operations and take the lead in managing customer relationships.
2008 - Urban Alarm extends its services to include "Urban Concierge" and is the only security company in the DC region that offers full concierge services to its monitored customers.
Urban Alarm is licensed in Virginia to provide security and related services to customers located in The Commonwealth.
