The installation of a new fire alarm system requires that an electrical permit be pulled with the County or State Authority also called the “Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)”. In the District of Columbia that authority is the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. Once the permit is issues the system plans are submitted for review and approval. The fire alarm system is designed based on the code, primarily NFPA 72.
